The gallery is located at 1474 W. Webster, Chicago, Illinois. Gallery hours are Thur to Fri. from 10.a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

“Arena Morena” is an exhibition of a group of young Mexican artists organized by Fernando Diaz, curator of the Galeria Menache, Mexico City. Diaz is also an art promoter and an art teacher of several art schools in Mexico City, including La Esmeralda. He put together this exhibition for La Llorona Gallery so that the people in Chicago could see the juxtaposition of the old and new races of Mexico. In this exhibition, one sees the inquietudes of each artist as they express the social unrest, economic difficulties, political upheavals and corruption, as well as the sensuality and spirituality of a country heavily populated by mestizos. The artists connect with their roots using different mediums in the theme of “Arena Morena” which means “Brown Sand.”

The art work ranges from pieces giving thanks to the Virgin of Guadalupe for having cured the ills of Mexican society to the dangers and benefits of modern technology. “Arena Morena” represents the new vision of today’s young artists who lend life and inspiration to Mexican and International contemporary art as they depict the coexistence of the old colonial world with today’s society.
